LineStorm revels in the magic of the moving line, brought to life in traditional, hand-drawn animation. Your artwork bursts into fluid motion in this total immersion workshop run by Pell Osborn and his veteran animators. Students work together in our award-winning animation studio in miniature—preplanning, then creating individual animated sequences which we build into our finished group project (topic to be announced). LineStorm reviews animation history and builds on classic techniques to lavish movement and detail on every scene. At the same time, LineStorm illuminates the structure of computer animation programs and how traditional, hand-drawn animation influences them. LineStorm works wonders with simple, ordinary materials (lightboxes, card stock and fiber point pens). CAAP’s LineStorm projects have won top prizes in national youth film festivals, and have aired worldwide on PBS, HBO and the Independent Film Channel. Participants take home preparatory artwork and flipbooks.
This advanced version of LineStorm I works in the traditional, hand-drawn animation approach. We dive deeply into the history and magic of classical animation. Working with lightboxes, action references, engaging exercises, and animators planning tools, participants build their own group project, to which everyone contributes ideas and sequences. Pell Osborn and his veteran animators guide students through the engaging processes that bring static images to energetic, impetuous, moving life! Participants take home all preparatory artwork and flipbooks.
